Do I Need a Level 1, 2, or 3 Inspection?

There are three levels of inspections, and each has its own set of criteria. Here are some questions you can ask yourself if you’re wondering which is best for your chimney and fireplace system.

  • Level 1: Do you keep up with your annual inspections? Are you using your fireplace like normal and is it performing normally? Did everything look good at the last inspection? If you answered ‘yes’ to these questions, then a level 1 inspection will likely be all you need. We’ll look at all readily accessible parts of your chimney and ensure there’s no damage or buildup. If all looks good, you’ll be free to enjoy your burning season with ease and peace of mind!
  • Level 2: Are you buying or selling property? Has your home recently been the victim of a natural disaster? Have you experienced a chimney fire? Has your system recently undergone a fuel change or renovation? Has it been well over a year since your last inspection? If you answered ‘yes’ to any of these, then a level 2 inspection is in order. It encompasses everything in a level 1 inspection, as well as an in-depth video scan of your entire chimney interior. We’ll ensure every inch of your flue is checked for flaws, damages, and buildup. If anything needs to be done before you use your fireplace again, you’ll know about it.
  • Level 3: Are your chimney issues still a mystery even after a level 2 inspection? Then, some components will need to be removed to further investigate the issue. A level 3 inspection requires removing (and sometimes destroying) parts of the fireplace or chimney to find the root source of a problem. But no worries – these inspections are rare and only performed when all other options have failed.

Book Your Next Inspection Today

It’s clear that chimney inspections are a must, and if you’re overdue, it’s time to get yours on the books. Even those that get their fireplace and chimney inspected every year aren’t always certain what each new analysis might reveal. A chimney that was working fine one year might need a sweeping or a few minor repairs the next. But the best way to keep costs down is to schedule routine maintenance.

If you live in or close to York Corner, York Village, Ogunquit, Eliot, Kennebunkport, or Cape Elizabeth, play it safe by relying on our team through it all. Call us at 207-608-0564 to get your inspection on the books!

People over in Kittery know their chimney systems will be in top shape year after year since they are part of our service area.
